Our Focus Areas and Programmes

UNFPA India's interventions in Rajasthan focus on addressing critical health and social issues through innovative, community-centred, and evidence-based approaches. These programs aim to create sustainable change by fostering partnerships and empowering young people, women and girls, and local communities.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

UNFPA in Rajasthan is committed to ensuring equitable access to essential sexual and reproductive healthcare for all. Our initiatives aim to address critical needs and deliver meaningful, sustainable improvements in health and well-being.

Transforming Maternal Healthcare

UNFPA India has been working to enhance the healthcare delivery system by introducing midwifery programs that incorporate simulation training and VR tools. These advancements aim to uphold the highest standards of care for mothers and newborns.

Supporting Informed Choices

Empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions is central to our efforts. This includes:
  • Introducing new contraceptives and ensuring their availability through robust procurement and quality assurance systems.
  • Building capacity and sharing knowledge to improve counselling services and provide comprehensive guidance.

Strengthening Health Systems

We are working to strengthen healthcare systems and deliver better health outcomes for mothers and children by supporting the implementation of government health programs and initiatives like LaQshya and SUMAN.

Youth and Adolescents

Youth and Adolescents

Enhancing Access to Life-Skill Education (LSE) and Counselling for Adolescents
UNFPA India is working to expand the reach of gender-sensitive, age-appropriate life skills education for adolescents, including the most vulnerable, to equip them for a better future. This is achieved through advocacy and capacity-building initiatives. UNFPA India in collaboration with the Department of Medical Health & Family Welfare, SCERT, Social Justice & Empowerment, Tribal Area Development, and Minority Affairs is implementing this work. Additionally, UNFPA India is strengthening IT-enabled platforms and fostering inter-departmental convergence to enhance access to counselling services and promote LSE through infotainment.

Advocacy and Policy
UNFPA India is partnering with the Department of Youth and Sports Affairs to develop a progressive state Youth Policy that ensures the rights of young people in the state. The policy guarantees that youth realise their opportunities and rights, including sexual and reproductive health rights, for their holistic empowerment.

Strengthening the State’s Adolescent Health Programs
UNFPA India is working with the Department of Medical Health & Family Welfare and the Education Department to address structural gaps in adolescent health programs, such as the School Health and Wellness Program (SHWP) and RKSK, through convergence workshops, capacity-building efforts, and monitoring and evaluation initiatives.
Gender and Social Norms

Gender and Social Norms

At the heart of our work is a commitment to transforming gender norms and building a safer, more inclusive world for women and girls:

Multi-sectoral response to Gender-based Violence and harmful practices
UNFPA India is working with multiple departments in the state, including the Directorate of Women Empowerment, Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Rajasthan Police Academy on a multi-sectoral response to Gender-based Violence (GBV) through capacity building, evidence generation and advocacy efforts. Through these partnerships, UNFPA India is engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including Police, Medical Officers, one-stop centres, Mahila Suraksha Salah Kendra, and Pannadhyaya Suraksha Samman Kendra in strengthening gender-responsive services for the survivors of GBV. Besides, UNFPA India works closely with girls affected by child marriage, empowering them with life skills as well as digital and employability skills and guiding them to become influential voices in challenging and ending this harmful practice.

Women and Girl-Friendly Governance
UNFPA India is working in collaboration with the Department of Panchayati Raj towards integrating gender in the training and planning of local governance. The efforts are towards creating women and girl-friendly gram panchayats (local governance) with an approach of making these interventions scalable and sustainable.

Promoting Positive Social Change
Challenging harmful social norms and tackling deep-rooted discrimination is challenging, but we’re making steady progress through collaboration with the Directorate of Women Empowerment. We’ve leveraged national flagship schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to foster gender equality and inspire communities to embrace change. UNFPA India is also working with young men and boys as well as adolescent girls to promote positive masculinity and engage them in challenging discriminatory social norms and practices.
Population Dynamics

Population Dynamics

Our work in Rajasthan has been addressing regressive social norms and harmful practices through rigorous evidence generation and operational research. We actively raise awareness and enhance the understanding of the connections between population dynamics and sustainable development. To support these efforts, we equip our team with advanced skills in data analysis and visualisation, enabling them to interpret and communicate insights effectively for strategic decision-making.
