Organizational Setting

The Position:

 

UNFPA’s 9th Country Programme Cycle (CPC) in India (2018 – 2022) focuses on ensuring universal access to high-quality sexual and reproductive health and rights; addressing gender discrimination and harmful practices such as gender-biased sex selection and child marriage, empowering young people with critical life skills and invests in adolescent health and well-being; and using population data to maximize the demographic dividend.

 

UNFPA regularly produces communication and advocacy materials in multiple formats to inform our partners, stakeholders, donors and the general public including our followers on social media, the impact of our work and the objectives UNFPA seeks to achieve.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

 

Job Purpose:

 

UNFPA is looking for a qualified candidate to support documentation and communications activities, including development of knowledge products in multiple formats, and promotional collaterals, for use across diverse communication platforms. The candidate should have competencies in graphic design along with proven skills in graphic layout and design, and in video creation and editing, visual messaging and informational graphics. Working with web platforms and content management is desirable. The candidate is expected to use her/his own system (desktop or laptop and other equipment required) with an active, preferably Adobe Creative Suite License and installed on the same. It is also recommended to maintain a back-up.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

A. Graphic Design and Layout

 

  • Design visual content for print and digital applications that is on-brand, reinforces mandate, and is appropriate for our various target audiences and stakeholders
  • Creative design, layout and formatting for publications including reports, brochures, posters, pamphlets, calendars, notepads, diaries, folders, booklets and any other printed and web-based communications materials taking into account UNFPA branding guidelines, and branding requirements of other donors/partners, as needed; enhance country office documents such as designing of annual reports, factsheets, manuals, guidelines, donor reports, and research publications
  • Design, edit photographs and create illustrations, artwork, maps, tables, charts and other graphic elements for communication and promotional materials
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size or type
  • Design and layout of essential business materials (e.g., business cards, presentations, annual merchandise, logos across interventions/programmes/projects)

B. Video Editing

  • Develop infographics on a regular basis using data provided by UNFPA to present core messages and organize complex information into visual representations for social media advocacy purposes
  • Edit and produce high-quality videos for social media and advocacy purposes; collate and edit footage received from UNFPA priority states and implementing partners. Knowledge and basic skills in animation are desirable.
  • Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions (including infographics if required) for print, electronic, web-based and animated presentations.
  • Report to and liaise closely with Communications and Media Unit on final design, layout and version for videos
  • Optimize graphics and video content for social media platforms
  • Maintain organized content files, and help to organize and archive existing video and graphics files

C. Knowledge Management and Support to the Team

  • The candidate may also be asked to support in documenting programme implementation in UNFPA India operation areas (Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha); edit and create videos such as explainer videos, short documentaries, interviews etc. Ensure consent forms are duly filled and signed from stakeholders before documentation
  • Support communications outreach through the website and social media, including content development and management
  • Liaise with printers (vendors), if necessary
  • Custodian of brand and brand guidelines and ensuring adherence to the same. Keeping abreast of UNFPA’s brand guideline developments
  • Work autonomously and develop high-quality concepts with minimal instruction
  • Manage timelines and prioritization of workload, and know when to ask for direction
  • Assist team in developing and executing communications plans, and strategy
  • Any other design related task requested by the Communications and Media Unit.

Carry out any other duties as may be required by the supervisor and UNFPA leadership.

 

The candidate will not be reimbursed for updating/renewing of her/his Adobe Creative Suite License.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

Post-Graduate degree in Graphic Design/Visual Design or any other related qualifications including art, design, animation, video editing.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 7 years of proven experience in graphic designing and video editing from start to published/printed/on-air product with knowledge of printing/editing processes (offset and digital) and colour management/video colour correction
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, video editing including the use of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite - In-Design, Adobe Premier Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, etc. Knowledge of Corel Draw and other similar platforms is a plus. *Candidates are required to have an active Adobe creative professional license and a laptop/system. **Please note that an office system will not be provided.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, G Suite and Tableau
  • Strong visual communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts and data through images
  • Working experience of Photography and Shooting Films/Video will be preferred
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of WordPress and similar CMS
  • Familiarity with best practices for graphics and video content on social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Technically proficient with the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Solid verbal and written skills
  • Flexibility in working with new issues, topics, and approaches
  • Working experience in the development sector will be preferred.
  • A detailed, current and labeled showreel of the candidate’s print and video work

Languages:

Fluency in English; knowledge of Hindi is desirable.

 

Mode of work

  • The candidate will be required to work in Delhi and/or the National Capital Region (NCR) with regular in-person visits to the office as required by the hiring unit/supervisor. S/he will undertake travel to UNFPA focus states when necessary and as feasible, as approved by the UNFPA Representative and/o Communications and Media Specialists.
