Ensuring gender equality and empowering women economically are essential pursuits, yet many nations grapple with constraints on women's property rights rooted in deep-seated social norms and customs. The absence of such rights often leads to a diminished status for women within familial and societal structures.

This analytical paper delves into women’s empowerment concerning household and land ownership, as well as access to bank accounts and mobile phones in India. It utilizes data from the fourth and fifth rounds of the National Family Health Surveys conducted in 2015-16 and 2019-21, respectively.

The study focuses on specific questions in both women’s and men’s questionnaires related to property ownership, shedding light on the dynamics of gender-based property rights in the Indian context.
