Based on the request of the Planning Commission, UNFPA commissioned a study to review the performance of fifteen ongoing financial incentive schemes for the girl child in India to promote the well-being of the girl child in India.

The current desk-based review of ‘Special Financial Incentive Schemes for the Girl Child in India' investigates the influence and impact of the conditionalities attached with selected incentive schemes. It also identifies the impediments in achieving the fundamental objectives of these initiatives. The findings of this study provide an insight into the direction policy and programmatic interventions should consider in the future, especially with regard to the design and implementation of financial incentive schemes.
