  • Location: New Delhi, India
  • Full/Part time: Full-Time
  • Fixed term/Temporary: Service Contract
  • Rotational/Non Rotational: Non-Rotational
  • Duration: One year (Renewable)
  • Position Number: 213324

The Position

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is implementing a project aimed at addressing gender norms and deep structures perpetuated at the local community level through Panchayats to enhance the value of women and girls. The programme will be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Departments of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in UNFPA focus states.

In April 2022, MoPR introduced nine thematic areas to accelerate progress towards specific Sustainable Development Goals. Theme 9 prioritizes the creation of women-friendly panchayats and aims to localize SDG-5 (Gender Equality), dedicated to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls. This led to the conceptualization of Girl Friendly Gram Panchayats (GFGPs) and a pilot project was conducted in coordination with the Directorate of Women Empowerment, Government of Rajasthan and UNFPA. This project will build on the work undertaken so far and scale it up further.

The position will be based in Delhi and provide overall coordination support to the project. The position will be the focal point for the team in Delhi and the two States where the project will be implemented – Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The position will also advance UNFPA’s initiatives with State Departments for Women and Child Development.

The position will report to the Gender and Human Rights Specialist and will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of Programme and Technical Support.
