Mission and objectives
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA has been operating in India since 1974.
Context
The India Country Office is now in its 10th Country Programme (CP-10). CP-10 envisions an India where every woman and young person, including those from the most vulnerable groups, enjoys gender equality, fully realises sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, and fully contributes to sustainable development. Guided by the new UNFPA Strategic Plan, 2022-2025, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the new country programme will galvanise efforts to end preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including in humanitarian situations. 17. The country programme was developed in consultation with national and State governments, civil society, United Nations organisations and other stakeholders, including women and youth-led organisations, based on the principles of inclusion, human rights and gender equality. In this context, the UNV Communications Specialist (Content Writer and Editor) will play an active role in:
● Ensuring and maintaining high quality of UNFPA written documentation
● Communicating with impact towards visibility of UNFPA leadership
● Documenting programmatic interventions for advocacy and outreach The UNV Communications Specialist (Content Writer and Editor) will be a part of an exciting and dynamic team with opportunities to learn, contribute and co-create solutions which have lasting impact.
Task description
As part of the UNFPA Policy and Partnerships Unit and under the direct supervision of the Communications and Media Specialist, the UNV Communications Specialist (Content Writer and Editor) will be responsible for undertaking the following activities:
● Create, edit, and copy-edit high-quality communication materials, including opinion editorials, speeches, factsheets, talking points, web articles, press releases, and social media texts.
● Build and manage high-profile partnerships with influencers and content creators to advance UNFPA’s agenda and increase engagement.
● Document and design multimedia stories to showcase programmatic success and insights to support programmatic goals.
● Develop communication strategies and supporting visual concepts that effectively translate complex ideas into accessible, engaging narratives, tailored to target audiences and aligned with the organization’s advocacy and outreach goals.
● Conduct research for communication insights to ensure content and advocacy materials are data-driven, contextually relevant, and strategically aligned.
● Monitor trends to identify content gaps and propose innovative approaches to address them.
● Support with the coordination of events, campaigns, and workshops to highlight UNFPA India’s work and build relationships across the ecosystem.
● Ensure all written work is original, authentic, and appropriately cited.
● Assist with planning and coordination of workshops, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement events.
● Ensure consistency and coherence across all communication platforms while maintaining alignment with UNFPA India’s brand and style guidelines.
● Support other writing and any other tasks as required by the Communications and Media Unit.
● Work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and deliver impactful, quality content.

Skills and experience
● At least 3 years of relevant experience in Communications
● Proven experience in English and Hindi editing and writing.
● Familiarity with development sector language and style; and understanding of publication requirements desirable.
● Experience in report/speech/talking points writing, editing and formatting of documents, reports and presentations.
● Experience in policy communication and research
● Knowledge and use of leading social media platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and others.
● Demonstrated understanding of design tools and software: Canva, Adobe design suite is desirable
● Photography experience and basic skills in video editing and production.
● Prior relationships with influencers, media partners will be an added advantage.
● Working knowledge of UNFPA mandate issues is an asset. Skills ● Excellent writer and editor with strong attention to detail and the ability to alter writing style to reflect different audiences.

Living conditions and remarks
New Delhi is the national capital of India and is situated in the central part of India. The city is home to thousands of businesses and international companies and embassies, making it very cosmopolitan in nature, and culturally rich. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions. The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). • Monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA): INR 64,961.50
• Entry lump sum (one-time payment): USD 400 (equivalent in INR)
• Relocation costs: $200 at beginning and end of assignment if duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV)
• Exit allowance (paid on successful completion of the assignment): INR 5,413.46 for each month served, paid on completion of contract
