Job Description

The Position:

The India Country Office is now in its 10th Country Programme (CP-10). CP-10 envisions an India where every woman and young person, including those from the most vulnerable groups, enjoys gender equality, fully realizes sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, and fully contributes to sustainable development. Guided by the new UNFPA Strategic Plan, 2022-2025, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the new country programme will galvanize efforts to end preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including in humanitarian situations. 17. The country programme was developed in consultation with national and State governments, civil society, United Nations organizations and other stakeholders, including women and youth-led organizations, based on the principles of inclusion, human rights and gender equality. 

The country programme will scale up efforts and drive accelerated progress towards the three transformative results through the following accelerators: (a) promoting human rights based, gender-transformative and evidence-informed approaches to improve access to quality sexual and reproductive health services and shape policies and programmes to reach the furthest left behind women and youth; (b) mapping and multiplying partnerships with influential and wide-reaching youth and women-led civil society movements, initiatives and organizations and building the capacity of select partners to become frontline responders, promoting their access to influencing and decision-making space and pioneering new ways to address discriminatory social norms, including through digital means; (c) strengthening data systems and promoting greater use of data and evidence to design and advocate for policies and programmes that impact the furthest left behind and hasten the pace of change required to achieve the three transformative results; (d developing and building ownership of investment cases for the three transformative results to strategically shift the focus from funding to financing; (e) taking advantage of the country’s thriving and dynamic digital ecosystem to design, implement, assess and scale up innovative solutions; and (f) informing South-South and triangular cooperation, in line with the ICPD Programme of Action.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA is looking for a qualified candidate to support documentation and communications activities, including development of knowledge products in multiple formats, and promotional collaterals, for use across diverse communication platforms. The candidate should have competencies in graphic design along with proven skills in graphic layout and design, image editing, visual messaging and informational graphics.

You will be responsible for:

A. Graphic Design and Layout

Duties and responsibilities

  • Creative design, layout and formatting for publications including reports, brochures, posters, pamphlets, calendars, notepads, diaries, folders, booklets and any other printed and web-based communications materials taking into account UNFPA branding guidelines, and branding requirements of other donors/partners, as needed; enhance country office documents such as designing of annual reports, brochures, powerpoint presentations, briefing notes, factsheets, manuals, guidelines, donor reports, and research publications
  • Design, edit photographs and create illustrations, artwork, maps, tables, charts and other graphic elements for communication and promotional materials;
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size or type;
  • Develop infographics on a regular basis using data provided by UNFPA to present core messages and organize complex information into visual representations for social media advocacy purposes;
  • Report to and liaise closely with Communications and Media Unit on final design, layout and version for videos;
  • Liaise with printers, if necessary;
  • Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions (including infographics if required) for print, electronic, web-based and animated presentations.
  • Any other design related task requested by the Communications and Media Unit.

Others:

Carry out any other duties as may be required by the supervisor and UNFPA leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:  

  • Graduate in any stream. A degree or diploma in any graphic design or any other related qualifications including art and design is an advantage, related streams (Journalism, Designing, Mass Comm, Art or Similar)

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, layout,  including the use of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite - In-Design, Adobe Premier Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, etc. Knowledge of Corel Draw and other similar platforms is a plus. 
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in graphic designing from start to published/printed/on-air product with knowledge of printing/editing processes (offset and digital) 
  • Working experience in the development sector will be an advantage
  • A detailed and labeled folder of the candidate’s graphic designing work

Languages:

  • Working knowledge of Hindi and English
